Free AI Visibility Tools and Reporting

Free tools can help you establish a first baseline, but ‘free’ may mean a limited report, an account requirement, a sample, or access only to one search ecosystem. Check each provider’s current limits before relying on it.

First-party options

Google Search Console

Google’s generative AI performance reporting is available through Search Console for eligible verified properties. It reports activity in Google’s AI search experiences using Search Console’s own reporting definitions. It does not show every generated answer, every user prompt, or performance across other AI platforms. Bing Webmaster Tools

Bing Webmaster Tools’ AI Performance report describes cited pages and aggregated grounding-query or citation activity across Copilot and select partner experiences. Bing notes that the report is aggregated and does not provide a complete count of all user interactions or equivalent search ranking and click metrics. Free checker previews

Semrush and Ahrefs offer free AI visibility checker experiences. Treat these as provider-generated previews with their own coverage, sample sizes, and usage restrictions. A one-time domain report is different from ongoing tracking of your own prompt set.

A no-cost manual baseline

  • Create a small set of realistic customer questions, grouped by intent.
  • Run each exact prompt in a consistent set of AI products and markets.
  • Save the date, platform, prompt, answer, whether your brand is named, cited URL, and any relevant competitor mentions.
  • Repeat on a schedule and keep model or interface changes visible in your notes.
  • Use the same definitions each time; do not turn a small sample into a broad market-share claim.

When a paid tracker may be worthwhile

Consider a paid platform when you need recurring checks, larger prompt sets, team workflows, exports, competitor views, or a central place to inspect examples. Compare the cost with the time it replaces, and confirm that its sampling method fits the decisions you plan to make.
